A new Muppet movie, titled simply, 'The Muppets,' is scheduled for theatrical release in late 2011 and that, alone, is exciting news. Among the film's expected stars -- you know, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Rizzo the Rat and the others -- the famed rock back, Dr. Teeth, are also supposed to return to the fold in a plot centered around the Muppet clan trying to save their old theater.
NME reports that real-life rockers Dave Grohl, Jack Black and Lady Gaga are all expected to make cameos in the film, which was written by Jason Segel and is being directed by James Bobin ('Flight of the Conchords'). Grohl, who fronts the Foo Fighters, will reportedly reprise his role as a drummer for the film -- when Dr. Teeth's Animal needs to be temporarily relieved of his duties in order to attend anger management classes, Grohl will save the day.
Grohl, who first rose to fame as Nirvana's drummer and who, more recently, played drums in the supergroup Them Crooked Vultures, plans to spend most of 2011 singing and playing guitar with the Foo Fighters. The band has been steadily rolling out a list of major festival headlining slots for this coming summer, with an album expected before then. More immediately, Grohl's drum work appears on a track on Michael Jackson's posthumous album 'Michael,' which was released this Tuesday.
As for 'The Muppets,' the Internet Movie Database lists Zach Galifianakis, Paul Rudd, Katy Brand, John Krasinski, Mickey Rooney and Amy Adams as possible cast members. Not bad company you keep, Mr. Grohl.
