The nominations for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards are in, and Lady Gaga is up for three awards, including Best Female Video for “Born This Way.” Gaga’s “Judas,” which was co-directed by Laurieann Gibson and the singer herself, will compete for Best Art Direction and Best Choreography.

Fans can now vote in the Best Female Video category on MTV.com. The 2011 Video Music Awards will take place on August 28th at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

In a shocking move after a bit of controversy surrounding the amount of nominations Gaga and other musicians received for this year’s VMAs, MTV has announced a brand new category for the Best Video with a Message.
