After Lady Gaga rolled herself out in a wheelchair during the middle of a concert in Australia, an advocacy group is speaking out. Life Rolls On Foundation is claiming the singer needs to see people who need wheelchairs to understand that using them for attention and shock value is just wrong, according to RadarOnline. The singer is well-known for her unusual styles, and this stunt is nothing like her famed meat dress fashion statement.
The founder of the Life Rolls On Foundation, Jesse Billauer, goes on to say, "I extend a personal invitation to Lady Gaga to attend one of our Life Rolls On events where quadriplegics and paraplegics surf, skate, and snowboard, so she can see how much is possible beyond a wheelchair. Maybe that will be most shocking to her of all." Of course, the singer would probably not be shocked; she already understands where determination and passion can take a person in life. She has created her own niche in the music industry, and it may not equal the struggles a disabled person faces, but she can still empathize.
Some disabled fans are actually happy the singer used the wheelchair, calling it cool. Maybe the advocacy group should take a page from any good publicist and realize any publicity is good publicity. Her intentions were likely to draw attention to the needs of those who do need a wheelchair to get around. Should Lady Gaga be more sensitive to the feelings of others? Or is she being an advocate for others?
